Concurrent to developing the retail PC game tie-in to Disney’s animated feature, Atlantis: The Lost Empire, I also proposed, designed and produced an interactive prequel to the movie.
The prequel was given away as a special promotion by Buena Vista’s marketing partners: Walgreens, Kellogg’s, Buena Vista Home Video, Kodak Film, and at point-of-purchase retail at EBGames and GameStop.
The game featured a long single player mission and two multiplayer levels, as well as an animated sequence that was created for the feature, but ended up on the cutting room floor. However, the piece fit perfectly as an opening cinematic for the prequel. The marketing program was very successful, releasing about 5 million prequel CDs and generating millions of hits to the preview website for the movie. As far as I know, no other licensed property tie-in has featured an interactive release prior to the public release of the property itself.
